The Youth Committee of the PSWU as part of the 2022 International Youth Day (IYD) organised some series of Activities from 10th to 15th August, 2022 dubbed PSWU Youth Week.
The launching was formally opened by the General Secretary, Brother Bernard Adjei on Wednesday, 10th August, 2022 at 5pm. Brother Adjei in his address said the Youth Committee continues to play a significant role in the Union and added that leadership will continue to support them in all their activities.
Later, a Symposium took place to discuss the Challenges confronting the country and world with special emphasis on the effects of Climate Change as well as the high cost of living associated to COVID-19 and Ukraine-Russia War. The Panel Members at the symposium were Brother John Doe, Administrative Secretary of PSWU, Brother Ebenezer Acheampong, National Youth Chairman, Sister Emelia Mills, Western Regional Youth Chairperson and Sister Gloria Asantewaa Asante, Central Regional Youth Chairperson. The Moderator was Sister Genevieve Piesie Jemba, PSWU Gender and Youth Desk Officer.
The Activity was organised on Zoom.
On Thursday, 11th August, 2022, the Youth had an Outreach programme in some principal streets of Accra to interact with the general public on the significance of IYD as well as the Activities of Trade Unions in Ghana.
A radio discussion was held on GBC Uniiq FM, 95.7 MHz on Friday, August 12, 2022 to highlight the importance of the International Youth Day Celebration. This was attended by Sisters Genevieve Piesie Jemba and Edith Kalleh.
Later in the day, the Youth Committee collaborated with the National Youth Council of TUC to donate some items to the Akropong School for the Blind in the Eastern Region. The items included bags of rice, sugar, flour, beans, toiletries, cooking pots and stationeries, among others.
The climax of the Youth Week was on Monday, 15th August, 2022 where a Zoom Discussion was held with the General Secretary as the Resource Person.
There was a solidarity message from Brother Abdoul Karim Ouedraogo of Building and Wood International (BWI) where he spoke about the BWI theme; “Youth in Unions, to take part and Build the Future”.
The International Youth Day is celebrated on 12th August. This year’s IYD Celebration was on the theme “Inter-generational Solidarity: Creating a World for All Ages”.
