The National Women’s Committee of the PSWU of TUC (Ghana) has elected new National Officers at the just ended 8th Quadrennial Women’s Delegates Conference which was held on 5th December, 2023 in Kumasi.
The Conference which was on the theme “The Role of Women in Strengthening Public Sector Institutions for Accelerated Economic Development in Ghana” had several speakers mentioning the role of women in strengthening the public sector for accelerated economic growth.
The General Secretary of PSWU Brother Bernard Adjei in his address highlighted the significance of women in enhancing the socioeconomic development of Ghana. He called on women to play their respective roles in ensuring productivity and economic growth. Brother Bernard Adjei called for more support for women.
The Special Guest of Honour Sister Florence Mucha Taruvinga, President of the Zimbabwean Congress of Trade Union (ZCTU) advised women to equip themselves and aspire for higher leadership positions. She added that women can perform very well when they are supported.
The newly elected National Women’s Committee Officers are Sister Ellen Osei as Chairperson, Sister Alice Ndego as Vice Chairperson and Sister Janet Koranteng as Secretary. They will serve for a period of four (4) years.
In her Acceptance Speech, the National Women’s Committee Chairperson Sister Ellen Osei was grateful for the opportunity given to her to serve the Women’s Committee for another four years. She on behalf of the other Officers pledged to work assiduously in making the Women’s Committee a better one.
The PSWU is one of the 21 Affiliates of the TUC (Ghana). It has a mandate of promoting the economic and social interests of its members.
